FREE Radicals: Cancer Edition

For over 20 years I have researched the “perfect human diet” for optimal health. I had such a restricted diet, no eggs, no meat, no poultry, no carbonated beverages for over 12 years. I truly thought I got it right. Alas, my body developed a watermelon sized tumor. Since my diagnosis, I have been on the search yet again. Let’s begin the conversation with supplements. I have a kitchen cabinet filled with homeopathic supplements, tinctures, and teas. My supply increased with my diagnosis. Here is a list of the supplements I alternate taking for immune support since my diagnosis:

Eliminating Free Radicals

  1. No deep fried food.

  2. No vegetable oils.

  3. No salad dressings. (use lemon, spices, vinegar)

  4. No margarine. (use butter, ghee)

  5. No added sugar.

  6. Limit air pollutants.


Why Can Free Radicals Be Harmful?

When free radicals steal electrons, they can damage:

  • Cell membranes (lipid peroxidation)

  • Proteins

  • DNA

If this process becomes excessive, it creates oxidative stress — an imbalance between free radicals and the body’s ability to neutralize them.

Oxidative stress has been associated in research with:

  • Aging

  • Chronic inflammation

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Neurodegenerative disorders

  • Cancer progression

The key word here is imbalance.

Simple Analogy

Think of a free radical like someone missing a puzzle piece.
